I put together this school, for a number of reasons:

1. When attending DJ schools in the past, and even checking online courses, I was left knowing little more than when I started. I also found many online courses play if very very safe and only teach you the very basics. This inspired me to put together this course based on years of teaching experience.
2. I have made a living as a DJ for over 15 years and have played all kinds of parties, with extensive experience with most genres. I have run at least a dozen successful club events all around Australia, have played at countless festivals, including main stage sets at ANZ stadium. I know what it takes to crack the club scene and will share with you priceless information on how to: be a great DJ, get shows, approach venues, and will give you the tools to  build unstoppable momentum.
3. Even though they say being a DJ is a competitive field, the quality of DJs out there is questionable and with the right guidance and an organised approach I am helping people to uncover their talent as a DJ, so they too can experience the joys of controlling energy and creating peak states at events.
4. It’s about time a school followed up on their students and not only teach them how to DJ, but also give their students the opportunity to perform live and gain valuable experience and contacts.

Being a DJ is amazing, even if it’s just playing your favorite tracks at home, to playing packed events and everything in between. If you love music, being a DJ is the perfect creative outlet. I am grateful that I am in the position where I can share my greatest passion with so many people.

Byron Bay DJ School and my online project Club Ready DJ School attract a huge variety of students. Complete beginners tend to not own any DJ gear and they are doing the course to see if they like DJIng and also to get advice from me on what DJ gear they should get so they don’t make costly mistakes.

Other people may already own gear but want to make sure they are doing everything correctly and want to up-level their skills. In truth, after teaching for almost a decade I know for certain, all you need to do is take the first step and by doing so you give me the opportunity to do my thing and that is - to help you reach your goals and exceed all your expectations.

If you already have DJ experience we can cover specific topics based on your goals.

As many of you may know I also run Club Ready DJ School. CRDJS is my online project and is hugely popular in the US and UK. The online courses at CRDJS are based closely off the in person training, yet the main differences are:

• The in person training is done with me personally at my studio in Mullumbimby (15 minutes form Byron Bay Town Centre).
• The online training consists of video training that you can watch in your own time www.clubreadydjschool.com.
• Because the online courses don’t involve me physically teaching you in person it is much cheaper than the in person training. Also because I am not limited by time, the online course IMO is far superior as it covers at least 20X the amount of content.
• That being said I can appreciate that a lot of people prefer in person teaching, in which case once you have built momentum, you may even consider upgrading and getting my online course (at mates rates) as the online course is the perfect companion for all of my in person training and offers refreshers on what we covered in class, plus a lot more content you can grow into, in your own time.

When doing one on ones in Sydney the first question I ask my students is “what genre do they wish to learn on” and their answers always fall into 3 main categories.

1. Deeper Kinds of House (suitable for people into): Tech House, Deep House, Techno, Minimal Tech, Progressive House and Nu Disco)
2. Heavier Styles of Dance (suitable for people into): EDM, Big Room, Electro House, Bounce, Hardstyle, Drum and Bass, Trap and Dubstep)
3. Vocal Driven Music (suitable for people into): Hip Hip, RNB, Pop, Rock / any genre where there is singing the whole way through

For this reason after we have nailed the foundations (with exercises featuring all of the above), I dive deep into all the above genres with examples on how to mix them all. For instance when mixing the deeper kinds of house it’s all about drawing out your transitions which means advanced EQ work, looping and FX, whilst mixing the heavier style of dance is more about maintaining energy and playing the bets parts of each track. However if you wish to play open format events you will learn how to make big BPM jumps and genre hop and also how to loop in tracks wth short intros. No matter what genre you’re into I have you covered and by the courses end you’ll know how to mix any genre and make all of your transitions work wether you know the track or not.

On YouTube people are always requesting I mix specific genres and the truth is some of these genres I have never mixed before. I simply take the methods I teach in my course and find I can apply them to everything. My goal for you: you are never limited by genre ever again and you know what it takes to make your mixes sound professional 100% of the time!

The Club Ready DJ course was designed to take somebody from knowing nothing about DJIng to being able to hit any DJ gear with confidence at a standard good enough to headline club events!

However, in saying that, I have tonnes of students that have no intention of playing in clubs and they simply want to learn to DJ for a creative outlet. Personally, I DJ’d every single week, sometimes 3 events per week, between 1999 - 2019 and even though I was a club resident, I also have a lot of experience playing functions, house parties, warehouse parties and even more experience playing at home as a creative outlet.

Byron Bay DJ School is in the Byron Bay shire in Mullumbimby (15minutes from Byron Bay town centre). To prevent people popping in unannounced, and potentially disrupting other in person classes, the address is only provided to students once they book / pay their deposit. We are on the east side of Mullumbimby, so as you drive into Mullum, it’s on your left - near the famous LOVE SIGN (like I said only 15 minutes to Byron Bay - very convenient and an easy stroll to pubs, cafes and more)!

As soon as you pay you will automatically be sent all the info you need (via email):

1. A receipt
2. Studio address, times and dates
3. Some tips and advice on how to make the most of our sessions
4. Access to the student zone (some free videos to help you get started (not compulsory, just for people that want to get a running start)

People come from all around the world for my training so if this is you, and you’re new to the area, this would be my advice.

Fly into Ballina Airport or The Gold Coast Airport and hire a car.

For accomodation I suggest either Mullumbimby or Byron Bay. I would search AIRBNBS, motels or even Mullumbimby Middle Pub has cheap and basic rooms that are walking distance to the school. That being said, Byron Bay also has beautiful places and is only a short drive to the school and is on the beach.
